Mac OS 8.5 or 8.6 Network and Dial Up Connections

Step 1

To start, open your hard disk, and in the Assistants folder, doubleclick on Internet Setup Assistant.

  • You should be asked if you would like to set up your IMac to connect to the Internet.  Click on Yes button to continue.

Step 2

  • Now, you'll be asked if you already have signed up for an Internet account. Assuming you have an active account already setup with your Internet Provider, click on the Yes button to continue.

Step 3

  • Here, you will be introduced to the setup process.  Once you've read this screen, click the arrow pointing to the right at the bottom of the window to go to next

Step 4

  • You'll now be asked what to name this configuration.  Just call it My ISP.
  • Then, select Modem for the method of getting connected to us.
  • When finished, go to the next step.

Step 5

  • You will now choose your modem from a list.  If you only have one modem installed, then the default options will already be selected as shown here. 
  • Leave the Tone selected below. 

Step 6
  • The next step is where you will need to put in the local access number so that you may access our service.
  • Now enter in the username and password, you created when you signed up with us.  Please make sure of the correct spelling when you enter this in.

Step 7

  • When asked if you need to use a PPP script to sign on.  Please answer No and go onto the next step.

Step 8

  • You will be asked if there is a specific IP address that was assigned to you, Select No and go to the next step.

Step 9
  • Here, you will need to enter information about our domain name servers.  The DNS addresses are:

204.157.32.8

 204.157.32.9

  • Enter these both in.  Now, also, you'll need to enter in the Domain Name or Host name, which will be your isp name (e.g. yourisp.com).

Step 10
  • Assuming that you have already established an email account you will need to enter this information here.  This will configure your computer to automatically send and receive e-mail.
  • Enter your e-mail address in the first box.   Then, enter your password into the next box.

Step 11
  • Now, we need to enter in the data about the e-mail servers you use. 
  • The first box is your e-mail account name, and should be entered in the format shown below.  This information includes your mail account username @ the actual name of the incoming mail server.  for example.
  • In the last box, put in your outgoing mail server name. (e.g. mail.yourisp.com or smtp@yourisp.com)

Step 12
  • You will be asked if you are behind a proxy, select No and proceed to the next step.

You're Done!
